A Quick Trip to Bremerton Washington

A Quick Trip to Bremerton Washington

By Published On: December 14, 2023

Yesterday my dogs and I visited Bremerton Washington for the day. It is about a two-hour drive from our home in Kirkland, and slightly less from the office in Seattle. It was not my first trip to Bremerton, but it was the first trip that I took to consider the town as a home for myself or my clients and friends.

As a Californian who spent over a decade in Humboldt County, I thought that Bremerton might have the same “vibe” at Arcata. If you were to look at the 1920’s homes in Arcata and Bremerton, you would see similar structures and paint choices.  However, I found Bremerton to be a larger, more diverse community.

About Bremerton

Bremerton is a city located in Kitsap County, Washington, in the United States. It is situated on the Kitsap Peninsula, which is in the western part of the state. Bremerton is known for its proximity to the Puget Sound and its naval history.

As of the 2020 census, Bremerton has a population of approximately 41,500 people. The city is the largest on the Kitsap Peninsula and serves as the county seat of Kitsap County. Bremerton is also part of the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metropolitan area.

Bremerton has a rich naval history, as it is home to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, one of the largest shipyards in the United States. The shipyard has been a significant employer in the region, contributing to the local economy and shaping the city’s identity.

In addition to its naval presence, Bremerton offers various recreational opportunities due to its location near the Puget Sound. The city has several parks, marinas, and waterfront areas where residents and visitors can enjoy activities such as boating, fishing, and hiking.

Bremerton is connected to Seattle by a ferry service, making it a popular commuter city for those working in the larger metropolitan area. The city also has its own downtown area with shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions.

Overall, Bremerton is a vibrant city in Western Washington with a diverse population and a strong naval heritage.
